A copyright notice can come before registration
In the United States, copyright in an eligible original work generally begins when the work is fixed in a form people can perceive. An owner can add an optional notice without filing first. A typical notice for many works includes ©, the year of first publication, and the rights holder's name. A sound recording may also use a separate ℗ notice for the recording. Supply the correct claimant information and check it before publishing.
The notice identifies a claim. U.S. Copyright Office registration is a separate process that can bring important enforcement benefits. A SpinStream record gives the creator a public evidence layer that can sit alongside a later registration: the work's title, submitted identity information, address, and AIN together at a referenceable starting point.
Keep a private original under your control
If you want to preserve an unreleased master, draft, or other private source, you can encrypt and store it independently with a tool and storage provider you choose. Keep the key and backup yourself. This private-file choice is separate from the $4.99 Permanent Mark; the public AIN identifies the SpinStream record.
Let proof grow around the same work
Permanent Mark is a useful starting point on its own. Standard Seal offers a fuller Proof Dossier. Blockchain Seal adds independently checkable on-chain evidence when completed. These are separately priced levels of evidence, not a reason to delay giving a creation its initial record.
