You made something—a song, a painting, a photograph, or a film. Before you post it, you wonder: Who can reuse it? What if it gets copied? And where is the record that points back to you?

First, check the controls wherever you post. Instagram has settings for certain uses of your original audio in Reels and Meta AI features. In some regions, Meta has a separate process for objecting to use of public information in AI training. Check what is available for your account and location. Neither control reaches every company on the internet.

Outside Meta, Spawning has a Do Not Train Registry that communicates creators' wishes to developers who consult it. Cara applies NoAI tags to images shared there. These can express your choice, but neither can physically stop every scraper.

Next, your copyright notice. You do not have to finish federal registration before placing a notice on an eligible work you own. Typically that means a ©, the publication year, and the rights holder's name. A sound recording may also have its own ℗ notice. Check that your claim is accurate.

Anyone can type a notice. A structured record keeps your claim and notice with the work's title, address, and AIN. When a clip gets shared, you have one place to point people back to.

Copyright Office registration remains valuable and brings additional legal benefits. If the paperwork or cost has to wait, your work can still have a starting record today.
